Maturity assessment, strategic roadmap, and benchmarking
Evaluate the current state of your program and develop a roadmap.
How we help
Launching or enhancing an information governance program can be complex and daunting.
As a trusted, independent vendor that sells no products, we deliver an independent, objective evaluation of your current information governance or records management program, define a right-sized target maturity tailored to your organization and industry, and develop a clear, prioritized roadmap detailing what activities should be done in what order, with optional benchmarking against industry peers.
Move forward with confidence knowing you’re focusing on the right initiatives, sequencing them effectively at the right pace, and investing at the appropriate level to meet your compliance, risk, and business objectives.
If you’ve been asking yourself…
“Are we meeting current legal, regulatory and privacy requirements for records management and document retention?”
“Who should participate in developing and executing our document retention and records retention program and how do we make this an enterprise-wide effort supported by multiple stakeholders?”
“What current capabilities do we already have in place, and which pieces are missing or need updating?”
“What are our current records management, document retention, information governance and privacy capabilities and how do they impact employee productivity, collaboration, compliance, risk and cost?”
“How do our information governance and data retention capabilities compare against peers in our industry?“
“What order should these program development activities take, how long will they take, and how should these activities be coordinated with other initiatives?”
“How do we communicate this plan effectively and credibly to senior management?”
“What level of records management, privacy and information governance maturity should our program have and what level of resources do we need to support this maturity for our company in our industry?”
…you’ve come to the right place.

What We Do
Our maturity assessment, strategic roadmap, and benchmarking services
Our maturity assessment and strategic roadmap service independently and objectively evaluates the current state of your organization’s information governance program, recommends a target maturity level, and develops a strategic roadmap to get there.
Our approach of engaging key stakeholders ensures input at every level. We provide concise, executive-ready findings to support informed decision-making by senior leadership.
Assessment and Roadmap
We evaluate the current state of your program, recommend a target maturity level, and develop a strategic roadmap.
Launching or updating a records management or information governance program can quickly raise key questions: What tasks or activities should we do? Where do we start and in what order? How do we engage other stakeholders to take part in ownership? How do we convince senior management?
An information governance assessment informs a strategic roadmap that closes gaps and ensures proper management, litigation readiness, and data protection, forming a comprehensive, step-by-step project plan for the entire initiative.
Assessment
Focused on key areas including policies, processes, procedures, data retention and disposition, ongoing management, information protection, and litigation readiness, the assessment produces a detailed maturity model that identifies current state, target state, and the activities and resources to address gaps between the two.
We define right-sized, target maturity for multiple program components based on your organization’s size, regulatory and compliance obligations, litigation profile, volume and sensitivity of personal information, geographic footprint, culture, and business needs.
Strategic Roadmap
Based on the targeted maturity level, the final, highly customized strategic roadmap details what activities should be accomplished in what order or in which time period, synchronizing with existing business, IT or other initiatives.
A divide-and-conquer strategy breaks the effort into manageable steps over time, with “quick wins” along the way that showcase program benefits and foster support from sponsors. Early victories build momentum and buy-in throughout the process, in contrast to a single win at the end of a prolonged project.
Stakeholder Engagement and Presentation to Senior Management
Throughout the process, we engage cross-functional key stakeholders including legal, privacy, compliance, IT, InfoSEC, data governance and business units, building support and joint ownership for information governance initiatives. We also work to align the program with company culture, implementing best practices within the existing functioning of the organization.
Working closely with project sponsors and key stakeholders, we communicate concise findings and recommendations to senior management detailing the program’s needs and justification.
Industry Benchmarking
We benchmark your organization’s information governance capabilities and maturity.
As an optional component of the maturity assessment and strategic roadmap, we benchmark your organization’s information governance capabilities and maturity against select industry peers and comparable organizations, across twelve information governance areas.
